It's a New Year and God is for you. He's committed to conforming you to the image of Christ, promising to use anything and everything that comes your way for His ultimate good in your life. It's stunning, but true. Debt has been canceled. Grace extended. The Spirit given. We are now the sons and daughters of God. And, even in suffering nothing can separate us from the extravagant love of God. Yet, we have a role to play in God's amazing purpose for our lives. THough God is sovereign and in charge of all things, we are invited to participate in the plan He has for us. Our responses not only matter, they define who we are and afford us the ability to magnify Christ in all we do. It's a New Year and God is for you...so choose well and make your life count for what matters most!
Grace (The One and Only) DVD
Louie Giglio
Sixstep Records, December 2010
Grace. Unexpected. Undeserved. Yet the core of the story is the gospel. Unique to the person and message of Jesus Christ, grace is simply God at work doing what we could never do. Nothing we can say or do can elicit more orless of the lavish grace of God. Grace is the essence of our Creator and the way to a personal connection with Him that lasts forever and the source of the strength that enables us to walk in truth. 'For God made Jesus, who knew no sin, to become sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.' 2 Corinthians 5:21. The Grace that is freely given cost the Son of God everything...and ignites within all who receive it a desire to live for the One who sets us free.
Prayer: Remix DVD
Louie Giglio
Sixstep Records, December 2010
Bless Me. Be With me. Watch over and protect me. Forgive me. Listen to the way you pray, and to the prayer of those around you, and you'll hear these four tried and true phrases often- familiar words we've probably been saying over and over to God since we first learned how to pray. ReMIXED prayers embrace these four concepts, while moving towards a healthier, God-centered prayer language that saturates our thoughts and words with the phrases, "Let Me Bless You," "Live Though Me," and "No Matter What, Use Me." A subtle shift based on radical truth. Potent prayer for a full life.

The Life Ready Woman
Shaunti Feldhahn
B&H Publishing, December 2010
Whether a stay-at-home mom or an airplane-hopping executive, a student or a senior adult, most women need a contemporary, encouraging vision for what it means to be a godly, biblically guided female in the twenty-first century. A biblical woman takes God's Word seriously not just at church but also in the everyday walk of life. But can a significant and satisfying twenty-first-century womanhood really be defined from Scripture? One that can apply to all women and yet not be guilty of cookie-cutter sameness, pressing everyone into a common mold? One that will stay fresh even as a woman grows older? One that can guide her to the best in life? The answer is yes, and the result is a femininity without excesses and regrets that mark those who just go with the flow of the world. In Life Ready Woman, best-selling author Shaunti Feldhahn helps readers take five faith steps drawn from the Bible that will help to define the best life possible. Each one is easy to understand, but requires bold faith to activate. The reward is being ready for the deeper life that God has planned.
The Damascus Way (Acts of Faith vol. 3)
Davis Bunn & Janette Oke
Bethany House, December 2010
Julia has everything money can buy...except for acceptance by either the Gentiles or the Jews. Her Greek father already has a wife and family, leaving Julia and her Hebrew mother second-class citizens. But when they are introduced to followers of the Way, they become part of that community of believers. Abigail's brother, Jacob, now a young man, is attempting to discover his own place as a Christian. He is concerned that being more serious about his faith means trading away the exhilaration of his current profession as a caravan guard. Hired by Julia's father to protect the wealthy merchant's caravans on the secretive "Frankincense Trail"--undercover transport of this highly valuable commodity--Jacob also passes letters and messages between various communities of believers. He is alarmed to find out that Julia, hardly more than a girl, is also a messenger. Can their immediate mistrust be put aside to finally bring their hearts together?

One Life
Scot McKnight
Zondervan, December 2010
What is the 'Christian life' all about? Studying the Bible, attending church, cultivating a prayer life, witnessing to others---those are all good. But is that really what Jesus has in mind? The answer, says Scot McKnight in One.Life, lies in Jesus' words, 'Follow me.' What does it look like to follow Jesus, and how will doing so change the way we live our life---our love.life, our justice.life, our peace.life, our community.life, our sex.life---everything about our life. One.Life will open your eyes to the full, compelling immensity of what it means to be a Christian. 'Jesus offers to us a kingdom dream that transforms us to the very core of our being,' says Scot McKnight. 'His vision is so big we are called to give our entire life to it. His vision is so big it swallows up our dreams.' Discover exactly what Jesus meant when he announced the arrival of God's kingdom. Equipping you with a new understanding of that kingdom's radical nature, One.Life shares profound, challenging, and practical insights on how to demonstrate its reality in your life. In many ways, what The Cost of Discipleship by Bonhoeffer challenged Christians to do in earlier generations, One.Life will do for a new generation. One.Life will call you beyond the flatlands of religiosity toward a kingdom vision that will shape everything you do.

Remember to Live
Flyleaf
EMI, December 2010
Just a year after the release of their full-length Memento Mori, Flyleaf show off their softer side with the EP Remember to Live. The album serves as a bit of an odds-and-ends collection, featuring remixed versions of "Justice & Mercy" and "Arise," as well as a handful of reworked songs from Flyleaf's formative years. Stripped down and gentle, these early songs give fans a glimpse of the soft core that lives at the heart of the band's driving sound, peeling back the layers of slick production and heavy guitars to reveal the emotional foundation that the band is built up from. While this may not be absolutely essential for the casual fan, Flyleaf diehards will definitely be interested to hear what the band was like before it came storming onto the scene with the heaviness of songs like "I'm So Sick," and should be able to appreciate the more tender sound that's offered on Remember to Live. ~ Gregory Heaney

The Next Christians
Gabe Lyons
Double Day, October 2010
Turn on a cable news show or pick up any news magazine, and you get the impression that Christian America is on its last leg. The once dominant faith is now facing rapidly declining church attendance, waning political influence, and an abysmal public perception. More than 76% of Americans self-identify as Christians, but many today are ashamed to carry the label. While many Christians are bemoaning their faith's decline, Gabe Lyons is optimistic that Christianity's best days are yet to come. In the wake of the stunning research from his bestselling book, unchristian, which revealed the growing disenchantment among young generations for Christians, Lyons has witnessed the beginnings of a new iteration of the faith. Marked by Lyons' brutal honesty and unvarying generosity, Lyons exposes a whole movement of Christians-Evangelicals, Mainline, Protestants, Orthodox, Pentecostals, and others-who desire to be a force for restoration even as they proclaim the Christian Gospel. They want the label Christian to mean something good, intelligent, authentic, and beautiful. The next generation of Christians, Lyons argues, embodies six revolutionary characteristics: "When Christians incorporate these characteristics throughout the fabric of their lives, a fresh, yet orthodox way of being Christian springs forth. The death of yesterday becomes the birth of a great tomorrow. The end of an era becomes a beautiful new beginning. In this way, the end of Christian America becomes good news for Christians." In The Next Christians, Lyons disarms readers by speaking as a candid observer rather than cultural crusader. Where other people shout, Lyons speaks in a measured tone offering helpful analysis of our current reality while casting a vision for how to be a Christian in a world disenchanted with the faith. Both a celebration and a reckoning, The Next Christians, combines current day models and relevant research with stories of a new generation of Christian leaders. If you are worried by what you see transpiring around you, this book will take you on a surprising social exploration in hopes that you too will restore confidence in your faith.

Homeless for the Holidays
Jack Baker was a successful marketing director on the fast track to the top of the corporate ladder. However, when a fellow employee changes a label at the pharmaceutical company, Jack is wrongfully accused and loses his job. Unable to find another executive position in a shaky economy, he eventually accepts a humiliating job flipping burgers. With his minimum wage job not making ends meet, Jack's life begins to spiral downward. First, the electricity is turned off, then his car is repossessed, and finally, the family loses their home. When they're forced to live in a tent, it becomes apparent that unless something changes, Jack, his wife, Sheryl, and their two children could lose everything by Christmas. Homeless for the Holidays is an inspiring story about a man who hits rock bottom. Jack once held a position of high power, but now the tables are turned, and he's the one asking for help. Along the way, a homeless man teaches Jack a few lessons he will never forget. This film shows that with a little faith and perseverance, we can rise above life's trials and gain a little bit of wisdom in the process.
Dreaming of a Pink Christmas
There's only one gift that matters at Christmas!
Sheila Walsh reminds little girls that Jesus is the true treasure of Christmas. Gigi starts off the season with a huge wishlist of things pink and pretty, but soon realizes she hasn't been thinking about giving gifts to other people she loves. Thankfully Gigi's mom and dad were kids once too, and can help their little girl remember how to keep her heart aimed at the real star of Christmas-while still enjoying all the celebrations. "I am bringing you good news. It will be a joy to all the people. Today your Savior was born in David's town. He is Christ, the Lord." Luke 2:10-11 (ICB)

The Dangerous Act of Loving Your Neighbor
Mark Labberton
IVP Books, November 2010
Jesus didn’t see a sick woman, he saw a daughter of God. He didn’t see an outcast from society, he saw a child of Israel. He didn’t see a sinner, he saw a person in the image of the Creator. Seeing rightly is the beginning of renewal, forgiveness, healing and grace. Seeing rightly, says Mark Labberton, is the beginning of how our hearts are changed. Too often, however, when we look at people we see problems or inconveniences on the one hand, or opportunities to be taken advantage of on the other. When we begin to see others with the eyes of Jesus, the stage is set not only for our own heart change but for a change in the world where life and justice can flourish. Through the careful self-examination that unfolds by the power, grace and wisdom of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, we begin to bear the fruit of love toward others that can make a difference in individuals and in society. Here is a chance to reflect on why our ordinary hearts can be complacent about the evils in the world and those in our neighborhood. This is not an easy book. But it is a necessary book. For it shows how Jesus sees us. Includes questions for personal reflection and group discussion.
