New Book Review

Peace In the Face of Cancer
by Lynn Eib

Tyndale Momentum 2017

Reviewed by Diane Busch

Having had cancer twice myself, I know the feelings of fear and despair, needing to hear from God, and wanting to know someone else understands.  A daily reading from Lynn’s book would have been so helpful back in 2002.  As the author notes at the beginning of her book, her intent is to “inspire in you feelings of hope, courage, comfort, and especially peace as you face cancer in your life or your loved one’s”.

On the inside front cover flap, Jim Kelly, NFL Hall of Fame quarterback, writes, “Peace In The Face of Cancer is…not about cancer, it’s about rising above your circumstances and finding peace regardless of what life throws at you.”

Lynn starts each chapter with a thought-provoking or relevant quote from a famous person and she ends each chapter with a “nugget” or summary statement about peace.  As a cancer survivor herself, she discusses issues, thoughts and fears that most cancer patients experience.  She uses personal stories from her own life, survivors, caregivers and medical professionals. She adds inspirational Scripture throughout and gives encouragement and tips and humor.  There is no one better to speak courage into your life than someone who has “been there and done that”.

In the last three chapters of the book, she speaks to those whose cancer is not considered “curable”, which is a delicate subject which she handles deftly.  At the end of the book a topical index is helpful to find writings on particular subjects.

This is a powerful little book that brings peace and comfort to anyone facing cancer.  I recommend giving it as a gift to friends or family members with cancer.  Whether you read this book all at once or one chapter daily like a devotional, you will be calmed, soothed, understood, inspired, encouraged, and given peace.

A complimentary copy of the book was provided for review purposes.
